Depression and Anxiety
Fear is an emotional response to a known or definite threat. The danger is real, definite and immediate. There is a clear and present scenario to fear.
Anxiety or Depression is a diffuse, unpleasant, vague sense of apprehension. It is often a response to an imprecise or unknown threat.
It comes from your mind’s vision of the possible dangers that may result in an imagined
or real situation. The overwhelming problem with this situation is that it wears you down. You know you
need to find a solution but as time goes on it gets more and more difficult.
Anxiety involves an
ability to use memory and imagination to move backward and forward in time.
Most anxiety and depressive states are based on erroneous beliefs, or a belief system that is not consistent with reality.
They are usually produced as a result of an individual's earlier life experiences, which can be the
result of one's actual experiences, the observation of others' life experiences, or even just hearing
about a fearful event.
Once established, erroneous beliefs are maintained. The presence of that
belief has a direct influence on a person's current and future cognitive functioning.
In other words, our erroneous beliefs allow for a distorted interpretation of the events that occur around us, and it is this distorted view of things that maintains our erroneous belief system.
