Depression

We describe depression as feelings of being 'stressed' or 'anxious' that last for weeks or months, rather than just a few days.

Depression is not a sign of weakness and can affect anyone at any time. It is more common in women than men (partly because women are more likely to seek help) and is likely to affect one in five of us at some stage in our lives.

Depression
The cause of depression can seem almost impossible to identify in terms of a specific incident or event - causing further distress to someone trying to understand why they are ill.

Although we ‘worry’ about our difficulties with our conscious mind, it is our subconscious mind that controls our feelings, emotions, beliefs and permanent memory. Our subconscious mind always seeks to protect us and sometimes learns beliefs that can become both redundant and limiting as we mature.

Our limiting beliefs can cause significant accumulated stress, which can eventually lead to chronic worry, together with psychological and physical illness. Using NLP and EFT techniques enables us to identify and resolve the limiting beliefs that may be inhibiting us from living a happy, fulfilled, peaceful life. It doesn’t matter whether our beliefs are right or wrong, what matters is whether they help or hinder us in our life.

They are usually produced as a result of an individual's earlier life experiences - invariably childhood, which can be the result of one's actual experiences, the observation of others' life experiences, or even just hearing about a fearful event.

Once established, limiting beliefs are maintained. The presence of these beliefs has a direct influence on our current and future happiness, and well-being.

Taking anti-depressants anaesthetises the effect of our depression, but does nothing to resolve the cause. See this article, from The Independent, on the numbers of people currently being prescribed anti-depressants.
