Eating Disorders

Anorexia nervosa - attempting to minimise weight through starvation and/or punishing exercise regimes.
Bulimia - controlling weight by being deliberately sick after appearing to eat 'normally'.
Binge eating - a compulsion to overeat.
Causes:
Psychologically, at the root of an eating disorder may be a combination of a number of issues, including:
Distorted body image
Low self-esteem
Anxiety for some control
An expression of deep emotions such as depression or trauma that cant be put into words
Risk factors that can make someone more likely to have an eating disorder include:
A family history of anxiety, depression or eating disorders
The death of a loved one, abuse or cruelty
Perceived stressful situations at home, school or work
Criticism of body weight or shape
Relationship difficulties with family or partner
Obsession with being slim or appearing 'perfect'
Eating disorders do not include food allergies, selective eating issues or disorders of the digestive system.
